Two Killed at HHI Shipyard

Two people were killed and two injured in a fire at Hyundai Heavy Industries’ shipyard in Korea on April 21. The fire broke out on a newbuilding Hull 2657, an 84,000-ton LPG carrier being built for Dorian LPG, and expected to be completed next month.

Around 60 firefighters and 18 fire trucks battled the fire which was extinguished within approximately one and a half hours. One worker was found dead at the scene and another died later in hospital as a result of serious burns. Both were subcontractors.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but some reports indicate that it may have started when workers were welding heat insulation materials.
