Tug Allides with Neva River Bridge, 2 Missing

 

Rescuers are persistently searching for two crewmembers missing after their tug allided with a bridge over St. Petersburg’s Neva River and sank.

Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry stated that rescuers had located the sunken ship, which struck the northern capital’s Palace Bridge around 2 a.m. and then drifted 200 meters downstream. However, they have been unable to trace the missing crewmen.

The Moscow Times reported that officials searched for them overnight, but were hampered by ice.

According to the Ministry, the tugboat had taken part in restoration works around the Palace Bridge. The bridge itself was not damaged in the allision.
