Tanjung Emas Invests IDR190 Billion For Port Expansion

SEMARANG – State owned Port operator for Westen Indonesia region Pelindo III of Tanjung Emas Semarang Branch prepares IDR190 billion investment to widen its port and container yard in 2014.

Pelindo III General Manager of Semarang Container Terminal (TPKS) Iwan Sabathini said the development is conducted to support container handling in Tanjung Emas in Semarang.

“It is currently under process. The investment to widen the port is around IDR105 billion, while to expand the container yard that has an area of 5.3 hectares requires IDR85 billion,” he told Bisnis, Wednesday (3/12/2014).

Once completed, the container yard will have a width of 23.9 ha from currently 18.7 ha. As for the port, it will have a longer length of 600 meters from 495 meters.

Iwan said the container handling in Tanjung Emas Port in Semarang this year is expected to reach 520,000 Teus (twenty-foot equivalent units) or 4% higher from 498.703 Teus.

In order to anticipate the increase in the number of container, he said TPKS also prepares 2 units of Container Crane (CC), 5 units of Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG), 1 unit of Reach Stacker (RS) and 10 units of Combined Terminal Tractor (CTT).

“In the future, the receiving and delivery process will certainly increase as well as the number of trailer truck carrying the container. Up to now, there are 400 trailer trucks coming in and out of the Tanjung Emas Port each day,” said Iwan.

The widening of port and container yard is expected to complete in 2015.
