Singapore seeks information on assault

 

A representative from the Singapore Consulate in Batam, Riau Islands, arrived at the Bakauheni Seaport Security Police (KPPP) station

on Tuesday to inquire about a recent incident, when a Singaporean reportedly attacked an immigration officer, at the Harbor Bay International Ferry Port.

The immigration officer suffered a severe gash to his right temple and the Singaporean assailant dove into the sea before being arrested by police officers.

Sekupang Seaport Police sub-precinct chief Adj. Comr. Hendriyanto said a representative from the Singaporean Consulate named Vijay had visited to inquire about the incident.

The attacker, identified as Muhammad Hafiz bin Selamat, 24, had just been discharged from the city’s compulsory military service and was in Batam with three friends for a vacation.

Hendriyanto said that the perpetrator would be charged with violating the Criminal Code’s provision on assault, which carries a five-year prison sentence
