Ship Collision Leaves Another Indian Fisherman Dead

Two German mariners were briefly detained in India after their ship was reportedly involved in a collision with a local fishing vessel, resulting in the death of one fisherman.

Germany’s Foreign Ministry stated that their two citizens were released on bail in the Port of Chennai [pictured above]. The men were receiving consular assistance. It was unclear when the incident happened.

Indian authorities are investigating the casualty.

The collision comes in the midst of rising tension between India and Italy over a similar incident. Two Italian marines face trial in India over the deaths of two fishermen, whom they mistook for pirates, killed last year.
