Cargo ship sinks , 10 seamen Rescued, 14 Missing
The Coast Guard Action Center of the Philippines was warned on the 17th of February, 2013 at approximately 9:20 a.m. after a Chinese bulk carrier crossing Philippine waters reported that they saved ten seafarers with Myanmar nationals onboard 2 life rafts at approximately 6:25 a.m. of the same date, at nearly 22 n.m. off Cape Bolinao, Pangasinan.
According to the information obtained by the crew members of MV Jin Cheng vessel, a Panamanian-flagged cargo ship – MV Harita Bauxite was bound to Ningbo, China from Obi, Indonesia, with twenty-four crew members aboard, encountered engine trouble and experienced rolling which lastly led to the sinking of the said ship at nearly 12 n.m. from the shoreline of Bolinao, Pangasinan.
Philippines Coast Guard (PCG) immediately connected to the local government of Bolinao for search and rescue actions and sent 2 rescue vessels to the region of the accident. Reports revealed that out of the ten rescued crew members by MV Jin Cheng, unfortunately 1 was found dead while 2 others were just injured. The 7 others were in good health condition.
As of 7:00 p.m. on 17th of February, 2013, PCG Helo 1636 has evacuated the 2 injured crew members and transported them to Lorma General Hospital for treatment. Search and rescue actions for the remaining 14 others are going to continue with 2 SAR ships and a helicopter of the Coast Guard. Notice to Mariners was also issued for ships passing through this region to be on the lookout for the missing seafarers.
