Robery Occurred in RI-Malaysia Border, Here Is the Action of the Navy

 

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NUNUKAN—Plunder against fishermen in the water of Indonesia-Malaysia border, especially in the water near Kalimantan, was increased recently.

“Plunder was rampant,” said Navy Commander of Sei Pacang, First Lieutenant Nasution, in Sebatik, East Kalimantan, on Wednesday (20/6).

He admitted that robberies was happened several times to fishermen in the island of Sebatik Nunukan District, East Kalimantan, who were fishing in Indonesian waters.

But, he said, the case was occurred outside the territory of the Sebatik Island. It was in the waters around the city of Tarakan, East Kalimantan.

“But never in the Sebatik, and therefore outside the Sebatik, to handle it directly is the authority of the Sei Pacang Navy and Nunukan Navy Base,” he denied.

Related to the robberies, he again emphasized the location of the case was outside the jurisdiction of the Sei Pacang Navy, and merely the victim was the Sebatik Island fishermen.

“Until now our region is still safe from plunder. It was happened in other waters. I believe it was happened in the water of Gusung Island and Bird Island there,” Nasution said.

Even so, the officer of the Navy on the Island of Sebatik, Nunukan District, East Kalimantan, hold regular patrols to monitor the waters on Indonesia-Malaysia border.

“Defense and security, especially in the water of Sebatik-Tawau, Malaysia, still exist and continuously carry out,” said Navy Commander Sei Pancang Sebatik Island, First Lieutenant Nasution, in Sebatik, Wednesday.

Security issues, he continued, were unprecedented cases that had interfered seriously, thanked to the awareness of the regular Navy personnel guarding the water borders.
