Three Ship Groundings Occur in The Philippines
The Philippine Coast Guard Central Vizayas Action Center reported three maritime incidents that occurred within their area of responsibility on January 15.
MV Joyful Star with 237 passengers onboard ran aground around 11:45 PM at the vicinity of Bantolinao Point, Cebu while enroute from Maasin, Leyte to Cebu. Said vessel, with 1097.87 GT, is skippered by Captain Alexander Canete of Roble Shipping Incorporated. The Coast Guard is still transferring passengers of MV Joyful Star using rubber boats to DF 318 and M/Tug Janggo to Porter Yacht Club, Cebu.
Subsequently, MV Subic Bay 1, a cargo container vessel, also ran aground at the same area at 2:44 AM. Said vessel was enroute from Nasipit, Butuan to Pier 7, Port of Cebu when the vessel ran aground. MV Subic Bay 1 is owned and operated by Carlos A Gothong Lines Incorporated with 61 officers and crew onboard and skippered by Captain Mariano Villarias. MV Subic Bay 1 is still waiting for the arrival of its sister ship M/Tug 4 to retract it from aground position.
Lastly, MV Our Lady of All Nation also ran aground at 2:00 AM at the vicinity of Danajon Bank, Bohol while enroute from Leyte to Cebu. Coast Guard search and rescue vessel, BRP EDSA II (SARV 002) was earlier dispatched to conduct search and rescue mission to the distressed vessel about 2.3 NM off Mabini Point, Cebu. The skipper of MV Our Lady of All Nation has established contact with Malayan Towage and Salvage Corporation to retract said vessel from its agrounded area. MV Our Lady Of All Nation with 592 GT with 90 passengers onboard, is skippered by Captain Samuel Fael of Medallion Transport Incorporated.
