US and IPC to develop port facilities in Nunukan
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NUNUKAN – United States builds supporting facilities at International Port of Tunon Taka in Nunukan, North Borneo to improve passenger services from abroad. Program Manager of International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP) in Nunukan, Alex Arena explained that US cooperated with government was done through Indonesia Port Corporation (IPC), state owned port operator.
“Tunon Taka port experiences rapid progress in the last three years. It motivates US to provide assistance facility to support systems and services from abroad,” Arena said recently.
US will repair passport control counters, both departures and arrivals from Malaysia to Immigration Office of Nunukan. US will also improve safety and port security by adding a fence around the port and cargo terminal along one kilometer.
US through ICITAP will improve custom service system at the port to make it more effective and efficient in performing inspection screening for goods, both departure and arrival passangers.
However, ICITAP required provision of maximum power availability. Tunon Taka port was considered to be very close to Indonesian border to Malaysia and other countries, especially Brunei Darussalam and Philippines.
