UPDATE : 22 missing after vessel sank in E. Kalimantan

 

Samarinda, East Kalimantan (ANTARA News) – At least 22 persons are reported missing after Karya Indah Vessel which carries more than 40 passengers sinks in Mahakam River of Samarinda City, E Kalimantan on Wednesday at 18.15 pm.

“We don`t have any information yet related to the condition of my relatives who drowned along with the boat,” said a relative of missing victim Murni in Traumatic Center Post here on Thursday.

According to the Traumatic Center data, several families have reported their relatives who are missing.

Some people are coming to the Traumatic Center to get information about the missing victims who have been rescued.

The interim data on the center showed at least 17 persons have been discovered alive and one victim died known as Nurhayari.

The 17 victims who are discovered alive consist of Petrus, Rahmawati, Yuliana, Ony, Masripah, Ayu, Anisah, Manjalia Dewi, Agustian, Naning, Maryati, Dedi, Mariamah, Hafsah, Yusran and Kadir.

“Several victims have returned to their home, two other persons are hospitalized at IA Moeis Hospital, while one person is treated at Traumatic Center,” said a medical person in the traumatic center.

The join search and rescue (SAR) team from Mobile Brigade (Brimob), E Kalimantan and Samarinda Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) and local police still conduct monitoring effort in the scene which is located 50 meters from Loa Janan vessel dock.

The SAR team has temporarily stopped the rescue effort on Wednesday evening and continues the searching on Thursday morning.

Karya Indah vessel is supposed to have carrie at least 50 passengers. It sank in the Mahakam River in Harapan Baru Village of Samarinda on Wednesday evening.

The boat carries several employees of a logging company PT Kalamur in Loa Buah area of Sungai Kunjang Sub-district.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) supposed the vessel sank because of a leak in its hull.
