Two ships collide in Malacca Strait
The Batam Port Office has reported that two container ships collided early Monday in the Malacca Strait.
Batam Port harbormaster Jhon Kenedy said Italian-flagged MV Hanjin, which was transporting shipping containers, and fuel ship MT AI Garrafa collided on international waters between Batam and Singapore.
“The incident occurred on the Malacca Strait. The sides of the two large vessels touched. Both vessels asked to be tugged to Singapore,” Jhon told The Jakarta Post on Monday.
He said the two vessels had arrived in Singapore. No fatalities were reported.
“We have also monitored that no pollution was cause by the incident,” said Jhon. (ebf)
