Summary Of The Meeting Of The IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee

Two IMO resolutions on ballast water management and climate were finalised at the meeting, where the NOx requirements were also considered.

Agreement was reached about a solution to when the Ballast Water Management Convention can enter into force. Furthermore, as regards the climate issue, the Committee succeeded in agreeing on a resolution on technical assistance and technology transfer, primarily aimed at developing countries.

For the time being, the expected NOx requirements for new engines were postponed until 2021. Until the next session of the MEPC in the spring of 2014, Denmark will strive to maintain the objective of making the regulations effective from 2016.
