Russian Oil Tanker in distress in Sea of Japan
Russian-flagged oil tanker vessel Marine Alliance, 3080 GT, built in 1994 with nearly 800 tons of fuel oil carrying onboard became stranded in the Sea of Japan. Marine Alliance suffered an engine failure which caused the accident.
“The oil tanker ship Marine Alliance that was sailing to port of Nakhodka, has been disabled due to a failure of its main engine,” reported the Emergencies Ministry in a statement, without specifying conditions of the weather at the scene of the accident.
The 20 crew members of Marine Alliance are reported to be in good health conditions. The tanker is expected to be taken on tow by another Russian tug boat, Fortuna 1.
