Pelindo IV Gets Permit for 4.5-Hectare Land Reclamation
BALIKPAPAN – PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) IV has obtained a principal permit to reclaim 4.5-hectare maritime area in Semayang Port which will be the port’s arrangement and development bases.
Balikpapan-Chapter Pelindo IV General Manager, M. Basir, said the principal permit was obtained by the end of last year.
According to him, the reclaimed land will be used as car terminal area and commodity stacking location supporting supply base business.
“This principal permit is an initial phase to conduct reclamation. We still need to conduct environment impact analysis (amdal) and to process reclamation permit,” he told Bisnis on Monday (1/12).
He targeted all permit process can be completed within three months so reclamation tender can be opened in 2015.
Basir continued the existence of reclamation area will lower traffic gridlock which often occurs around port area when passenger vessels arrive.
According to the plan, he explained, 1 of 4.5-hectare reclaimed land will be used as car terminal.
He added new cars from factories in Java Island can be temporarily placed on the location so it will not disrupt stevedoring activity which only serves logistic and passenger currently.
Moreover, the 1-hectare area will also be utilized as parking lot for the vehicles with six wheels or more which will go on board.
So far, big vessels at the port use roadside to park so it often causes traffic gridlock.
“Therefore, reclamation is an urgent matter. We hope city government can immediately issue the permit,” he said.
On the other hand, the rest 3.5-hectare will be utilized as supply base area projected as new business for Balikpapan-Chapter Pelindo IV.
Great oil and gas mining activities in Makassar Strait makes this business prospective to be developed. “Balikpapan is a strategic location since it has complete facilities.” (Bisnis Indonesia)
