Pelindo III Adds 20 Stevedoring Vehicles

SURABAYA – PT Pelabuhan Indonesia III plans to add another 20 automotive terminal trailers (ATT) to complete the facilities in Surabaya Teluk Lamong Port, East Java.

PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) III CEO, Djarwo Surjanto, said ATT is the equipment firstly implemented in Indonesia after being used in US ports.

According to him, his office also implements docking system automatic in Teluk Lamong Port which is the first in the world.

Both modern equipments are procured to save stevedoring time and to improve safety when relocating container from truck to vessel.

“This docking system technology was made by Gaussin Mangistique, a French firm,” he explained in the sidelines of trial for docking system and ATT in Teluk Lamong Port, on Tuesday (1/20).

Currently, he continued, Teluk Lamong has 50 ATTs. Its investment costs USD 230,000 per unit while docking system automatic costs USD 100,000 per block with six lines in each block.

CEO of PT Terminal Teluk Lamong, the subsidiary of PT Pelindo III, Prasetyadi, said ideally, 10 cranes need 70 ATTs.

Currently, Teluk Lamong has 10 cranes so it needs another 20 ATTs. “We will add more ATTs and in the future, we should mull how this technology can run and be developed continuously,” he said.

Docking system automatic usage can save time since relocating a container only needs two minutes so in an hour, it can relocate 30 containers. So far, stevedoring a container using conventional crane needs three workers.

“With docking system, it only needs a driver and ATT can automatically move backward exactly on container lane without being driven,” he explained.

Moreover, accident often haunts conventional stevedoring equipment during stevedoring activity especially in early day when drivers are sleepy. “Usually, accident occurs in TPS so if we implement this technology, it will no longer occur,” he added.

According to the plan, Pelindo III and Gaussin Manugistique want to sell ATT and docking system technology to all ports in the world.

Prior to that, Pelindo III and Gaussin have signed joint venture contract to develop the technology.

Gaussin Manugistique Chief Operating Officer, Stephane Hecky, said her office expected the technology can give contribution in Indonesian logistic performance, even in the world. “We will keep developing the technology assisting logistic system here so productivity and security will run well,” she said.
