Pelindo II Targets Kalibaru Operation in Mid-2015
JAKARTA – PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) II has not operated Terminal I of Kalibaru Port. Ideally, the terminal supporting Tanjung Priok Port should have been operated by the end of last year. However, until now, its construction process has not been completed yet.
The state-owned enterprise (BUMN) claimed the delay occurs since the road construction to the port has not been completed. “In the initial plan, the road will cross people’s land but land acquisition process is not easy,” said Dani Rusli Utama, CEO of PT Pengembang Pelabuhan Indonesia (PPI), which is also Pelindo II’s subsidiary, to Kontan last week.
Consequently, Pelindo II was urged to revamp its construction plan by constructing road access to the port. However, pile installation by PT Wijaya Karya Tbk (WIKA) was also hampered by local people’s protests.
However, WIKA is optimistic the project can be completed in the middle of this year. Currently, his office has communicated with local people. “In terms of construction, currently it is 40%, almost 45%,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kalibaru Port’s Terminal I infrastructure construction has been completed. The 400-meter berth and one-hectare container yard are ready to be used.
Besides waiting for road construction process, in April or May, Pelindo II will be waiting for the arrival of heavy equipment such as four container cranes and 10 rubber-tyred gantries. “The electricity substation has been completed and we only need electricity supply from PLN,” he added.
Even though it has to revamp its plan, Pelindo II will not revamp its budget. Without detailing the used budget, he state his office has allocated USD 2.17 billion (IDR 22.66 trillion) budget to complete Kalibaru Port.
Later, the subsidiary named PT New Priok City One, a joint venture with Mitsui, will be the operator of Kalibaru’s Terminal I.
