Maspion To Develop Container International Port In 2014
SURABAYA – Maspion Group is targeting to start the initial development of container international port by the second quarter of 2014 in Maspion 5 industrial zone, Gresik, East Java.
Maspion Group President Alim Markus said the port investment which is dedicated for container terminal worth around IDR3 trillion. About two third of the amount was obtained from bank loan.
“We will develop PT Pelabuhan Indonesia Maspion in Manyar Gresik for containers since the existing ports are already jammed,” he said in Surabaya, Monday (1/6).
He said the international port is equipped with a 400 meter jetty which could be used in two sides. Meanwhile, the sea depth is aimed to reach 20 meters so that the vessels could directly enter Indonesia without removing load in Singapore.
“The project will take about 2-2.5 years to complete,” he said. On the other hand, there are two major ports built in East Java, namely Teluk Lamong terminal at the border of Surabaya and Gresik as well as Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE) by Pelindo III and AKR Korporindo in Manyar Gresik.
In relation with the competition between the two ports, he responded that JIIPE port development will only be made in longer period. JIIPE port is planned to be built in a 371 hectare land area and equipped with a 500 meter jetty under the depth of 16 meters.
