Maritime Accident: Lambelu Passenger Vessel Collided in Tanjung Perak Port

Bisnis.com, SURABAYA – Lambelu passenger vessel collided with Journey cargo vessel in buoy 10 at Madura Strait, in Surabaya’s Tanjung Perak Port area on Tuesday at 2.20 A.M. Due to the incident, KM Journey sank after it broke its hull but 17 vessel crews in the vessel, sailing from Lembar, were successfully evacuated.
Head of Harbormaster Administrative Office of Surabaya’s Tanjung Perak Port, Marzuki, explained that KM Lambelu was post-staying when the incident occurred. Meanwhile, KM Journey should be anchored after sailing from Lembar.
“When it would be anchored, KM Journey was allegedly dragged by stream and it collided with KM Lambelu causing broken hull and gradually sank,” he said. 
Shortly ffter the incident, Harbormaster team and Water-Air Police (Polairud) immediately headed to the site of accident in buoy 10 to evacuate vessel crews (ABK).
“For almost two hours after collision and before the vessel sank, 17 vessel crews from KM Journey were successfully evacuated.”
On the other hand, all KM Lambelu’s passengers were saved.
