Indonesian govt aims to produce 300,000 dwt ships
Jakarta (ANTARA News) – The Indonesian government has drawn up a roadmap for the development of ships of 300,000 deadweight tonnage (dwt) by 2025, to reduce the country`s dependence on imported ships, according to a minister.
Currently, the national shipbuilding industry is able to produce cargo ships, passenger ships and tankers of 50,000 dwt, said the Industry Minister, MS Hidayat, on Wednesday.
The shipbuilding industry is expected to enhance the design and the capacity of ships by 2015, he said.
“In the next three years, the national shipbuilding industry will be able to produce ships of 85,000 dwt, with a ship repair capacity of up to 150,000 dwt,” he said.
The government believes that the shipbuilding industry will be able to produce ships of 200,000 dwt by 2020, he said.
“By 2020, the shipbuilding industry will be able to produce ships of 200,000 dwt. The capability of the shipbuilding industry is expected to increase by 2025,” he said.
This way, the shipbuilding industry will be able to produce ships of up to 300,000 dwt by 2025, he said.
