China Navigation and Swire Pacific Offshore Join World Ocean Council
The China Navigation Co. Pte. Ltd (CNCo) and Swire Pacific Offshore Operations Pte. Ltd. (SPO), major international shipping companies based in the Asia-Pacific region, have joined the leading companies from a range of industries that are distinguishing themselves as members of the World Ocean Council (WOC) – the international business leadership alliance on Corporate Ocean Responsibility.
Simon Bennett, General Manager for Sustainable Development for both companies, stated:
“Much of world trade depends on maritime transport to and from Asia. The shipping industry has a significant role in ensuring its operations are safe and sustainable whilst not adversely affecting ocean health. Both CNCo and SPO take this responsibility very seriously, and indeed both are targeting having zero negative environmental impact, but we also recognize the enhanced gain to be had by many other companies and industries in the whole shipping process working together on these issues.”

The 196-year-old Swire group includes CNCo, the deep-sea shipowning and operating business headquartered in Singapore and with offices in Australia, Hong Kong, India, Papua New Guinea and the UK. CNCo operates a global network of multi-purpose liner services for the transportation of containerised, breakbulk, heavylift and project cargoes in addition to providing drybulk and bulk logistics services. CNCo’s liner services company, Swire Shipping, deploys a fleet of 13 multipurpose ships, as well as chartering-in approximately 15 ships, covering around 130 ports worldwide.
SPO is a subsidiary of Swire Pacific Limited, one of Hong Kong’s leading listed companies, and supports the global offshore oil and gas industry covering the entire spectrum of exploration and production activities. SPO’s fleet of 79 owned and managed vessels includes Anchor Handling Tug Supply boats, Platform Supply Vessels, as well as specialised Wind Farm Installation Vessels, Accommodation Barges, Hydrographic and Seismic Survey vessels, and vessels for Maintenance, Dive support and ROV (remotely operated vehicle) support.
