Aceh`s fishermen detained in India: Official
Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA News) – India has detained eight fishermen from Aceh on charges of stealing fish in the Indian waters, said head of Aceh provincial Maritime and Fisheries affairs office, Raihanah.
“Eight of Acehs fishermen have been detained in India for allegedly fishing in the Indian waters,” Raihanah said here on Monday.
According to her, of the eight fishermen, five were arrested in 2012 and have been sentenced to two years in prison. The other three fishermen were arrested in April 2014 and have been detained in Porthapur prison, Port Blair, Andaman Islands.
The five fishermen are Dedi Suhardi (38) and Nurwan (58), both hailing from Gampong Jawa village, Banda Aceh; Muhammad Nasir (29), hailing from Lambaro Sukon, Aceh Besar district; Harmi (28) from Labuhan Haji, Aceh Selatan district; and Azhari (30) from Idi Rayeuk, Aceh Timur district.
The other three fishermen are Kamarulzaman (50), Aan Anzarna (23), and Irwan Saputra (18). They come from the same family, father and two sons, from West Aceh. All the three have been held since April 2014.
Raihanah said that the five fishermen will be sent home on September 14, 2014 after the end of their sentence, while the other three who have been arrested still have pending legal process.
