Sunken ship in Sunda Strait found, nobody trapped

 

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Joint Search and Rescue Team has found the sunken ship Bahuga Jaya on Saturday night. But they did not locate any body near the ship. Bahuga Jaya was sinking on Wednesday in Sunda Strait after colliding with Norgas Chatinka, a Singaporean flag tanker.

The Coordinator of the team, Saidar S Jaya, said on Sunday that the ship was sinking 76 meters below the sea level. The position was shifted about a kilometer from the initial point due to undercurrent. The ship was found using multibeam echo sounder and side scene sonar.

“We have not seen any victim,” he said. Yet, he could not ensure as the number of passengers in the ship was not clear. The number of victims rescued is 214 people. Seven of them is found dead.
