Three Illegal Immigrants Arrested in South Lampung

Bakauheni, South Lampung. Three illegal immigrants planning to cross Sunda Strait to Merak Port in Banten have been arrested, the police in South Lampung said on Wednesday.

“The trio of foreigners were arrested when they were riding a Pelangi bus from Medan to Jakarta,” Adj. Comr. Heru Andrian, the Bakauheni Harbor Police chief, said on Wednesday as quoted by Antara state news agency. “They did not have valid immigration documents.”

The immigrants — Abdul Ali, 56, M. Imran, 35, and Syah Alam — came from Pakistan and Myanmar and were arrested on Tuesday night.

The Bakauheni Harbor Police previously arrested six illegal immigrants who were also about to cross the strait to Merak, Heru said.

The six immigrants, from Iraq, were also caught on a bus during a routine check on Monday, he said. They arrived from Malaysia by boat to Medan, North Sumatra, and would be taken to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) office in Jakarta.

“All the illegal immigrants that have been arrested will be handed over to the International Organization for Migration for further legal charges according to the regulations,” he said.
