Pelni Works on Coal Shipping
JAKARTA – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Pelni) plans to ship around 150,000 tons coal per month owned by PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN).
Pelni Commercial and Business Development Director, Elfien Guntoro, said the plan will be initiated by cooperating with PT Bahtera Adhiguna as the subsidiary of PLN.
He said PLN goves concession to Bahtera Adhiguna to ship 7 million tons per year assuming 500,000 tons coal is shipped per month.
From the concession, Pelni will ship the coal which has not been shipped by Bahtera Adhiguna.
He targeted his firm can ship 150,000 tons coal per month. “We do not handle it all ourselves. We only ship around 150,000 tons coal,” he told Bisnis on Monday (1/12).
As for now, he said his firm will rent coal shipping vessels since the firm has not had or planned to purchase coal shipping vessels.
Along with the operation, he added, the firm will make investment for the vessel next year.
According to him, the business action is the continuation of the firm’s plan to involve in the plan to develop commodity shipping business. “If we can, we try to rent it first,” he explained.
Bisnis recorded PLN has also cooperated with pT Djakarta Lloyd to ship coal supply for Teluk Sirih coal-fueled power plant (PLTU), Nagan Raya PLTU, Suralaya Baru PLTU, and Tanjung Awar-Awar PLTU in September last year.
Moreover, Djakarta Lloyd has also obtained contract to ship coal to Labuan Angin PLTU in Sibolga, North Sumatra and Jeneponto PLTU in South Sulawesi since April 2012.
PT PLN Coal Division Head, Helmi Najamudin, said he does not Pelni’s plan with PT Bahtera Adhiguna.
However, for the cooperation between PLN and Djakarta Lloyd, it will mostly be shipped to Sumatra while Bahtera Adhiguna operation supplies more coal in Java Island and eastern Indonesia. (Bisnis Indonesia)
