PGN finishes construction of distribution vessel

State-owned gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) will use its newly completed floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) to distribute natural gas to Lampung, South Sumatra, West Java, Banten and Jakarta.

The FSRU, which has the capacity to store 2 million tons of gas per year, is part of an integrated natural gas infrastructure based in Lampung, with the other part being a 100-kilometer long distribution pipeline, construction of which was 90 percent complete as of March.

The FSRU, named PGN FSRU Lampung, will be used to store liquefied natural gas (LNG) and also serve as a regasification vessel.

“You can say that Lampung is currently experiencing an energy crisis, and hopefully the new FSRU will be able to provide a solution to the problem,” said PGN president director Hendi Prio Santoso in a statement on Monday.

PGN FSRU Lampung was built in the Hyundai Heavy Industries Shipyard located in Ulsan, South Korea, and is expected to arrive in Indonesia mid-May.
