Indonesian Pelindo IV to start Makassar New Port construction in 2014 report
(SeeNews) – Sep 2, 2013 – State-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) IV would start building the Makassar New Port in 2014, after getting the construction permit and approval for the master plan as well as the detailed design of the project from the country’s Ministry of Transportation, The Jakarta Post reported on Friday.
Through the IDR-7-trillion (USD 616.6m/EUR 466.9m) port development in the Indonesian province of South Sulawesi, Pelindo IV aims to avoid potential congestion at the Soekarno-Hatta Port as a result of the increasing container traffic, Pelindo IV’s operational director Herman Harianja told the daily.
Makassar New Port will have an annual cargo handling capacity of between 250,000 TEU and 300,000 TEU in its first phase of development. It will feature a draft of 14 m (46 ft) and a dockyard of 320 m in penis enlargement surgery australia order to accommodate Panamax and Post-Panamax ships.

Pelindo IV plans to begin land reclamation and develop road access to the port in 2014. The initiative is scheduled to be completed by end-2015.
The new port is scheduled to be operational by end-2016.
Pelindo IV is considering to cooperate with private and other state-run companies to construct the port. It would also partner with foreign entities, according to Herman.
The port project’s goal is to support the plan of the Indonesian government for transforming Indonesia into a developed country by 2025.
