Satellite search for oil spills
AMSA(Australian Maritime Safety Authority)is planning to use satellites for oil spill detection. The organization informed: “Australian Maritime Safety Authority. These satellite sensors can monitor day and night, can see through cloud, rain, fog and other weather”.
AMSA announced that now for oil spill detection are used other vessels, airlines or people to report for oil pollution. These ways of reporting are slow and not effective. If the problem is reported too late the chances of finding those responsible for the crime are poor.
Satellites are perfect for detecting oil spills and to find the vessels that pollute. The information is transmitted to Australian Maritime Safety Authority within 60 minutes. Areas with high risk of oil pollution(busy shipping routes) will be monitored with attention.
