3 Amver Vessels Rescue 27
For just a weekend 3 distinct AMVER rescues unfolded recently in the Caribbean and the result was 27 human lives saved.
The cruise ship Disney Wonder and Carnival Conquest rescued a combined 21 Cuban migrants from disabled vessels while the bulk carrier Desert Hope rescued 6 people from another disabled vessel.
Disney Wonder
The 1st case on Friday, 11th of April, 2013 engaged eight Cuban migrants in a rustic 15-foot vessel dead in the water nearly 8 nautical miles north of Mariel Harbor, Cuba. An aircraft of the United States Customs and Border Protection located the vessel and helped the cruise liner Disney Wonder to find the location and embark the eight survivors.
Carnival Conquest
The 2nd case unfolded the following day when the cruise ship Carnival Conquest located a group of people on a disabled raft vessel waving a white flag nearly 30 nautical miles southwest of Marquesas Key. The cruise vessel embarked thirteen survivors and coordinated with the USCG to rendezvous with the Coast Guard Cutter Confidence to transport the migrants.
Desert Hope
The last case engaged a search for a disabled rustic vessel in the vicinity of Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic. The Amver participating vessel Desert Hope was also diverted to assist and found the ship. While making maneuvers in order to perform a rescue of the survivors, the crew lowered a ladder. The result was 6 survivors taken aboard the Marshall Island-flagged vessel in good health condition.
